Mark Wahlberg never disappoints fans and Contraband is another action film that is sure to draw viewers in until the end. This action thriller, which stars Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale, teams up two action favorites in this remake of an Icelandic film and creates an interesting and dynamic duo.

The film begins with Chris Farraday (Wahlberg), a reformed smuggler who makes an honest living installing anti-theft alarm systems. His brother-in-law Andy (Caleb Landry Jones) gets into some trouble while smuggling drugs for Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), and now owes Briggs a large sum of money. Briggs threatens Andy’s life and Farraday tries to step in with an easy fix. Not being one to cut his losses, Briggs informs Farraday that he will do whatever needs to be done to get his money. If Andy dies, Briggs threatens, his family, meaning Farraday’s wife (Kate Beckinsale) and kids, inherits the debt.

Farraday decides to come out of retirement and complete one last job; however, he refuses to smuggle drugs and instead decides on a large run of falsified money from Panama. He gets a team together, but while in route to Panama, Briggs decides to pay Farraday’s family a visit. While in Panama, Sebastian (Ben Foster), Farraday’s best friend, and Briggs hash out a plan to trick Andy into making Farraday smuggle drugs for them. Sebastian owes money to Jim Church, a powerful black market entrepreneur and has hashed out an intricate plan to get this money.

In Panama, Gonzalo (Diego Luna) drops a third piece of potential cargo, a Jackson Pollock painting which Farraday and Gonzalo inadvertently land when taking out an armored vehicle. Back on board with the painting, stacks of fake money and three bricks of cocaine, Farraday and Andy figure out unique ways to smuggle their goods into the United States, while things at home fall apart. Farraday’s wife is in danger and Sebastian, a recovering alcoholic, falls off the wagon. When Farraday and his team finally make it to shore in New Orleans, U.S. Customs units board the ship looking for all of Farraday’s goods,Farraday’s wife is in a makeshift body bag about to be buried in cement and Briggs and his men have captured Andy. Here, Chris Farraday has to use every bit of the smarts that have marked him out as a genius smuggler to save his wife, his brother-in-law and his millions of dollars worth of smuggled goods.

Moviegoers who want to escape into a good storyline with plenty of twists and turns will enjoy watching Wahlberg at his best!
